The Story: Down there, from where nothing is seen and nothing is heard. Where the law exists, but it's impossible to abide by and impossible to enforce. Where the only thought in people's heads is how to survive today and deal with tomorrow the next day. A strange figure patrols the plains, known by everyone but rarely seen by anyone. This invisible force is a murderer in the eyes of the law but famed by the people of the plains as a solution. They fear him greatly but need him dearly. No one knows him by name but all see him as a savior. Behind the movie: The film was inspired by real life events and the local legends that surround them. Although a similar protagonist really did exist, this is a story of human drama woven around folklore rather than a reworking of reality. The film's director, Loránd Banner Szucs, grew up in the self-same rural Hungary that provides the story's setting, and such stories of lone law-enforcers continue to linger in the minds and memories of all those who live there. The film sat in a box for more than ten years. After initial editing and post production, the director decided not to premiere his work. No one saw it until 2020 and it was never screened. A DVD of the film's rough cut turned up during the 2020 lock down. It was the first time the director had seen his deliberately forgotten film in ten years.
